Watering and fertilizing are key to healthy plants. Watering should be done regularly and without oversaturating the soil, while fertilizing should be done when the plant is growing new leaves or flowers.
I like to garden in the summer because the plants are more fully grown and there is plenty of sunlight. I like to plant Annual Flowers, Vegetables, Fruit Trees, and Shrubs in our garden. There are many different kinds of Annual Flowers that are easy to grow. Some examples are Daisy, Bellflower, Aster, Larkspur, Sweet Alyssum, and Sunflowers. These flowers will bloom for a short period of time and then die down again so they need to be planted close together. Vegetables that we can plant in our garden include Cabbage, Carrots, Spinach, Potatoes, and Beets. We should choose a good variety of each vegetable so that they will have different colors and flavors. Our garden should also have some fruit trees such as Peach, Apple, or Pear trees. We can also grow Blackberries or Raspberries. Finally we should add some shrubs such as Juniper Berries or Cherry Trees to our garden. If we want to make our garden look nicer we can plant various types of plants together in groups or color-coordinated gardens. I like to do this because it makes my garden look more professional and pretty.
If you are looking to plant a garden in your backyard or front yard, consider the climate and soil of your area. The climate in your area can dictate what type of plants will do well there and what kind of care is necessary for them. The soil in your area should also be taken into consideration. If your soil is heavy and clay-like, you will want to choose plants that prefer sandy soil or one that is tolerant of poor drainage.
When planting, be sure to choose the correct type of plant for your location. A few general tips to follow when planting include considering the sun and wind exposure, whether you want a groundcover or a tree, and what size plant you need. Additionally, be sure to research the specific plant you are purchasing to make sure it is suitable for your area.
Mulch is a great way to keep your plants warm in winter and cool in summer. Mulch can also help to prevent weeds from growing and protect your plants from harsh sunlight. Select a mulch that is lightweight, won't stick to your plants, and has a neutral scent.
Organic produce may be more expensive, but it's worth it because pest management is a necessary part of producing crops using organic methods. Appropriate controllers or spraying products can be used to help control pests in organic crops.
Harvesting fruits and vegetables often means picking them when they are ripe. This means that their color has changed, and they have a sweet taste. It is best to pick them while they are still green, so that they will be firm and not damaged.
