I love adding bonsai ornaments and plants to my home. I started small by buying a few inexpensive plants, but gradually I've been adding more expensive ornaments. I like finding or creating plants and ornaments that are specific to the area in which I live, such as orchids in Hawaii, bamboo in the northeast US, and figs in California.
If plants are not getting the amount of water they need, the roots will go down into the soil to find water and this can cause your plant to wilt and die. Make sure to water plants thoroughly and allow them to dry out slightly between waterings in order to prevent over-watering.
The regular picking of dead branches, pruning and watering of a bonsai is necessary for its healthy development and long life.
Bonsai are miniature trees that are often trained to look different from one another. Different positioning, colours and textures can be used to create a unique appearance for each bonsai.
Bonsai are typically grown in an enclosed area such as a greenhouse. They can also be grown outdoors in a protected area, but the trees will not survive long in cold climates.
Different combinations of plants create a variety of textures, shapes and colors. Plants that are tall and thin create a sharp contrast against plants that are shorter and thicker. Large leaves on the top of a plant creates a shadow underneath, while smaller leaves near the ground provide more light. Plants with differently shaped leaves can also create interesting patterns. For example, a plant with heart-shaped leaves creates a checked pattern on the ground.
Taking care of your trees is essential for keeping them healthy and looking good. Keep them watered frequently and prune them when necessary to keep them shaped the way you want.
